MY UNFORGETABLE EXPERIENCES

GLOBAL LEARNING INFO

"The Office of Global Learning Initiatives prepares FIU’s students to be successful global citizens who develop global awareness, a global perspective and use their passion to make the world a better place.

We achieve our mission through the award winning Global Learning for Global Citizenship initiative, in which every student engages in active, team-based, interdisciplinary exploration of real-world problems."

Since the first day, I learned about the program, I quickly fell in love with it. As a young black man, it was a nightmare for me everyday to see people in my environment keep labelling one another; especially those they don't know because of their background, social status, race or gender. Therefore we label them as, "rapist", "black", "terrorists", "smart", "Christian", "poor", "white", "gay" among others...

I found it so dangerous for our society, therefore I decided to ignore a few things that I learned in school, from the media, internet and close friends to focus more on my personal experience with some places around the world. In consequent, I decided to complete as much certificates at FIU to help me get a better and a closer understanding of those cultures and people we don't know.  After I completed all the certificates for Asian Globalization and Latin America,  National Security studies, Latin American and Caribbean studies, Middle East studies program, European and Eurasian studies, Global Black studies, Haitian Studies  and finally a certificate in languages and cultures of North Africa. I am proud to say that and finally understand that the Medallion program was the last piece of the puzzle to help me become a global citizen.

French Heritage Language Program - Miami

I had the opportunity to help many francophone immigrant children from multiple places around the world who live in Miami to maintain their French language. I had to work closely with the coordinator of the program as a teacher's assistant. Through the institutions that are affiliated with the organization, we try to help these children and show them how much of an asset French is and thus help them maintain their French eloquence while living in United States.

French Heritage Language Program is not only a place to learn but also a place to share love and affection. FHLP is a great place that keeps a lot of young Americans with francophone backgrounds together. This internship has definitely showed me that there are still some organizations and people who are interested in helping the francophone immigrants in the United States. It also increased my interest to help children around the world.
